REC takes forward industry concerns with Home Office
As part of its remit to take forward the views and concerns of members, the REC is represented on an increasing number of Government working groups and committees.
This week’s meeting of the Home Office Business Advisory Panel provided an opportunity for highlighting member views on the possible impact of the Government’s new immigration system, the need for fast criminal record checks and the importance of ensuring the legal working regulations are properly enforced.
Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, Tom Hadley, REC Director of External Relations, says: “There are a number of pressing concerns here for the industry, in particular with regards to the impact the new points based immigration system could have on the availability of staff in specific sectors such as care homes.
“The last few years has seen a definite step-change in the Government’s recognition of the industry’s voice on all issues linked to the labour market, skills and employment.
“Representation on the Home Office Business Panel and on other high profile committees means that we are able to take the industry’s views to the heart of Government and achieve tangible outcomes for our members.”
The REC will be providing members with regular updates on the practical implications of the Government’s new managed migration strategy. In addition, it was confirmed at the meeting that the Home Office will be putting more resources into the proper enforcement of illegal working regulations.
This is something the REC welcomes and will play a key role in addressing the activities of rogue providers who knowingly flout the law and undercut legitimate agencies.
